Educational Leader / Borobi Group Teacher
I began my early childhood career in 2000 working at Childcare and After-School care services. I worked in schools as Chaplain/Teacher for 16 years. In 2016 I worked as a relief teacher in the early years at Primary School while I earned my Masters’ in Early Childhood Teaching.
My time spent teaching in early childhood in schools has provided a firm understanding of how I can support children and their families throughout the Kindergarten year in readiness for transitioning to Prep.
I love working at Springwood Community Kindergarten in such a beautiful and unique environment, with an expansive, beautiful outdoor area with trees and shrubs, which attracts native wildlife like birds, possums and water dragons.
My philosophy is modelled after child-directed, play-based learning, carried out through self-directed play and intentional teaching. I have an intense passion for outdoor and natural learning as a learning environment to stimulate social skill building – cooperation, resilience, perseverance, creativity and much more!
In my classroom I aim to create a warm and nurturing environment, respecting that children come to kindy as different individuals with unique strengths and differences. I value respect, honesty, cooperation and ‘second chances’ – everyone makes mistakes, so it is so important to ‘give it a go!’
When I’m not teaching, caravanning with my family, swimming for fitness, or creating with paint, resin, and sewing.
